Towards the end of 90's, Nd:YAG lasers were coming to be known in the market.
Particularly for aluminum welding and cutting applications, YAG lasers were
finding their niche. Also, with fibers in YAG lasers, the advantage of flexible piping
was utilized in several instances. Still cost of operation and safety continued to be
the major issues.

Slowly by mid 90's other options were cropping in the industry such as diode lasers
and fiber lasers. Although these technologies have been limited to low power
applications, the future of these technologies look bright for welding and cutting
applications in the industry. Cost of lasers in terms of equipment, maintenance
and operation have come down over the years and are now is direct competition
with the other welding and cutting processes.
